Cookie is a Therapy Dog certified Cocker Spaniel. She has passed her American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Test and is a registered R.E.A.D. dog. Cookie is owned and handled by Eloise Sulzman. Cookie was rescued at the age of 8-9 months from
a family who could not afford a dog. "I was very sad and so
frightened when my first family said I had to leave." whispers
Cookie. "They told me I was a mistake but they would make sure
I had a good, safe place to go while a new home was found for me."
Bud and Eloise Sulzman did rescue work and took Cookie in their home
until a permanent family could be found. But Cookie had another problem
- non-contagious mange "Dad gave me bath after bath and put
this funny stuff he called medicine on my fur." Cookie explains.
"It felt nice and after awhile I looked beau-ti-ful! I could
not stop looking at my reflection in everyone's eyes." As the
mange cleared up it was time to re-home Cookie. "Dad said he
would find a good home for me. But
.but
I already had a good
home and I wanted to stay. Mom and Dad said they could not give me up.
I wiggled myself into their Cookie lives in Vineland with two French Brittanys, a Golden Retriever, and two cats. French Brittany "Barron" was only 10 weeks old when he arrived from Montana and Cookie helped socialize him. "I told him the world is a wonderful place and he will like it!" smiles Cookie. "We have fun running and chasing each other in our backyard. Mom and Dad fenced it in so we would be extra safe." In addition to Puppy Tales, Cookie also likes to listen to stories being read at Durrand School. She goes to a local nursing home each month where the residents watch especially for her. "They call my their favorite dog" Cookies says with pride. "I was even invited to a birthday party there and had lots of fun." Cookie sometimes goes to work with her mom and tries to help. People just relax and are happier when Cookie is around. Cookie's favorite books are Dr. Seuss - especially
the ABC book. "I like books that rhyme and I've heard about
something called poetry. Maybe someone would read me a book of poems?"
Cookie is waiting at the library to hear stories. Will you be the one
to visit and make Cookie happy? This pup spells joy for all children
lucky enough to read to her. She is a sweet little cookie-treat and
likes to give gentle kisses. |
