Candy is a Therapy Dog certified greyhound. She is R.E.A.D.© (Reading Education Assistance Dog) registered and has passed the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen test. Candy is owned and handled by Maxine and Bob Stiles.

Candy was born in 2000 and is a rescue dog. "I was so happy when I came to my for-always home." whispers Candy. "It is wonderful living with mom and dad Stiles. I was a little scared at first. But, boy, I love my family and life so much now."

This beautiful greyhound goes to school each week to listen to children read. “My favorite book is The Three Little Pigs. Sometimes I dream about that wolf huffing and puffing to blow a house down – it is so funny because no wolf could do that!” giggles Candy.

Like most dogs, Candy loves treats and gentle petting. Her very favorite treat is bananas. She also loves to take walks and visits with neighbors. “They all know me!”

Approximately 30,000 greyhounds are bred each year for dog race tracks. Seeing a greyhound puppy is quite unusual - it is estimated only 150 are registered with the American Kennel Club. A greyhound must never be left off his leash and must have a fenced-in yard. They are sight hounds and are trained to go after anything that moves. A greyhound's food must be softened because of his long neck. Rescued greyhounds make wonderful pets.

Candy is anxiously waiting for children to read her a book. "Come read to me" says Candy. "We can stretch out on my blanket and you can read me a wonderful book. I’d love to listen to whatever book you read – just read to me." Will you be lucky enough to read to this sweet, loving dog?
