BOARD OF TRUSTEES – MINUTES
May 23, 2013

A meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Vineland Public Library was held on Thursday, May 23, 2013, in the Community Event Room of the Library, 1058 E. Landis Avenue, Vineland, NJ.

Board of Trustees Secretary Rosa Mendez called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm. Notice of this meeting had been sent to the Office of the City Clerk, The Daily Journal, The Press, Channel 9 and was posted in the library in accordance with The Sunshine Law. Trustees present were Victor Druziako, Whelma Irby, Rosa Mendez, Michael Sarnoff, Christine Schneider and Ross Stanger. Also present were Library Director Gloria Urban and Administrative Clerk Mary Ann Rada.

MINUTES of April 25, 2013
Mrs. Schneider, seconded by Ms. Irby, moved that the minutes of the April 25, 2013 Board of Trustees meeting be accepted. The Administrative Clerk called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Ms. Irby, and Mrs. Mendez. ABSTAIN: Mrs. Schneider and Dr. Sarnoff

TREASURER’S REPORT for April, 2013
On a motion made by Mrs. Schneider, seconded by Ms. Irby, Trustees approved the Treasurer’s Report for April, 2013. The Administrative Clerk called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Ms. Irby, Dr. Sarnoff, Mrs. Schneider and Mrs. Mendez.

SCHEDULE OF ACCOUNTS
The Schedule of Accounts for Payment for May, 2013, in the amount of $65,038.23 ($10,516.30 – library material and $54,521.93 – other expenses) was authorized for payment by all present on a motion made by Mrs. Schneider, seconded by Ms. Irby. The Administrative Clerk called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Ms. Irby, Dr. Sarnoff, Mrs. Schneider and Mrs. Mendez.

Mr. Stanger arrived at this point of the meeting.

APPROVAL OF PAYMENT OF SALARIES AND BENEFITS for June 2013
On a motion made by Mrs. Schneider, seconded by Ms. Irby, Trustees approved the City of Vineland to make payment of salaries and benefits to the employees of the Vineland Public Library for the month of June 2013 with funds retained for this purpose. The Administrative Clerk called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Ms. Irby, Dr. Sarnoff, Mrs. Schneider, Mr. Stanger and Mrs. Mendez.

CORRESPONDENCE
Ms. Urban reported the only correspondence received was an invoice from Cassie, the company that provides the management system for the public computers.

LIBRARY DIRECTOR’S REPORT
A copy of the Library Director’s Report is attached to the original minutes.

Ms. Urban added the following:

• The sliding door of the side entrance to the library is malfunctioning and a service call has been placed.
• At the last Friends of Vineland Public Library meeting, Friends approved funding in the amount of $3,301 for Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest, online genealogy services. Also approved was $2000 for the purchase of OverDrive eBooks and Audiobooks.


DEPARTMENT REPORTS
The Children’s Department submitted a detailed report on the Teen Lock-In held on May 3.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
New Library Card
Ms. Urban passed around the new library card. Trustees were pleased with the new design.

Roof and Water Infiltration Renovation Construction Budgets
A budget report was received from Architect John Pedersen with two options for construction cost estimates.

Vote on Partnership Vineland Public Library Home Library Card
The Partnership Vineland Public Library home library card will be available for purchase to Millville Public Library and Bridgeton Public Library patrons. The Vineland Public Library home library card will allow MPL and BPL patrons to have the same privileges as VPL patrons, such as:
• The ability to have new books reserved for them.
• The ability to make suggestions for purchase and have a hold placed on that book.
• The ability to access databases that we pay to subscribe to, such as ProQuest, Newspapers and Ancestry.com

On a motion made by Dr. Sarnoff, seconded by Ms. Irby, Trustees approved the cost of $10 for the Partnership Vineland Library Home Library Card. The Administrative Clerk called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Ms. Irby, Dr. Sarnoff, Mrs. Schneider, Mr. Stanger and Mrs. Mendez.

Ms. Urban also reported that in CY12, $3000 was earned from the sale of $50 non-resident library cards. In the first four months of CY13, $1800 was earned.

NEW BUSINESS
Approval to hire Shanice Glover
On a motion made by Mrs. Schneider, seconded by Ms. Irby, Trustees approved the hiring of Shanice Glover for the position of part-time seasonal Library Assistant in the Children’s Department. The Administrative Clerk called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Ms. Irby, Dr. Sarnoff, Mrs. Schneider, Mr. Stanger and Mrs. Mendez.

Approval to hire Eric Rodriguez
On a motion made by Dr. Sarnoff, seconded by Mr. Stanger, Trustees approved the hiring of Eric Rodriguez for the position of part-time Security Guard. The Administrative Clerk called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Ms. Irby, Dr. Sarnoff, Mrs. Schneider, Mr. Stanger and Mrs. Mendez.

Approval to hire Eligio Rodriguez
On a motion made by Dr. Sarnoff, seconded by Mr. Stanger, Trustees approved the hiring of Eligio Rodriguez for the position of part-time Security Guard. The Administrative Clerk called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Ms. Irby, Dr. Sarnoff, Mrs. Schneider, Mr. Stanger and Mrs. Mendez.

PUBLIC COMMENT
No members of the public were present.

EXECUTIVE SESSION
There was not a call to go into Executive Session.

ADJOURNMENT
On a motion made by Dr. Sarnoff, seconded by Ms. Irby, Trustees agreed to adjourn the meeting at 5:54 p.m.
