BOARD OF TRUSTEES – MINUTES
March 28, 2013

A meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Vineland Public Library was held on Thursday, March 28, 2013, in the Community Event Room of the Library, 1058 E. Landis Avenue, Vineland, NJ.

Board of Trustees President Joanne Gittone called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm. Notice of this meeting had been sent to the Office of the City Clerk, The Daily Journal, The Press, Channel 9 and was posted in the library in accordance with The Sunshine Law. Trustees present were Whelma Irby, Victor Druziako, Christine Schneider, Deborah Wallace-Long and Joanne Gittone. Also present were Library Director Gloria Urban, Senior Library Assistant Mary Ann Rada and Library Counsel Edward Duffy.

MINUTES of February 28, 2013
Mrs. Wallace-Long, seconded by Ms. Irby, moved that the minutes of the February 28, 2013 Board of Trustees meeting be accepted. The Library Assistant called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Ms. Irby, Mrs. Schneider, Mrs. Wallace-Long and Ms. Gittone.

TREASURER’S REPORT for February, 2013
On a motion made by Mrs. Schneider, seconded by Mrs. Wallace-Long, Trustees approved the Treasurer’s Report for February, 2013. The Library Assistant called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Ms. Irby, Mrs. Schneider, Mrs. Wallace-Long and Ms. Gittone.

SCHEDULE OF ACCOUNTS
The Schedule of Accounts for Payment for March, 2013, in the amount of $16,544.76 ($11,956.48 – other expenses and $ 4,588.28 – library materials) was authorized for payment by all present on a motion made by Mrs. Schneider, seconded by Ms. Irby. The Library Assistant called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Ms. Irby, Mrs. Schneider, Mrs. Wallace-Long and Ms. Gittone.

APPROVAL OF PAYMENT OF SALARIES AND BENEFITS for April 2013
On a motion made by Mrs. Schneider, seconded by Ms. Irby, Trustees approve the City of Vineland to make payment of salaries and benefits to the employees of the Vineland Public Library for the month of April 2013 with funds retained for this purpose. The Library Assistant called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Ms. Irby, Mrs. Schneider, Mrs. Wallace-Long and Ms. Gittone.

CORRESPONDENCE
Ms. Urban received a copy of a letter Mr. Zerella wrote to the Attorney handling the Neopost affair asking for an update on the situation. Ms. Urban is forwarding the letter to Mr. Duffy and asking that he request the Neopost file from Mr. Zerella.

LIBRARY DIRECTOR’S REPORT
A copy of the Library Director’s Report is attached to the original minutes. Ms. Urban added the following:

  • Marketing students from Rowan University are creating a logo for the consortium.
  • Taste of the Islands will be catering Casino Night. The Foundation has received over $3400 in sponsorships. They are in need of prizes and baskets.

Mr. Duffy arrived at this point of the meeting.

DEPARTMENT REPORTS
Children’s Department

Trustees received a copy of the Children’s Department report. Ms. Urban reported Children’s Library Assistant Chae Reid will be resigning to join the U.S. Air Force.

Reference Department
Trustees received a copy of the Reference Department report. Ms. Urban reported the library is advertising for a new Library Associate position and has received seven applications.

Trustees thanked both departments for creating such interesting and complete reports.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
There was no unfinished business.

NEW BUSINESS
Ms. Gittone welcomed Mr. Duffy and thanked him for serving as the new Library Counsel.

Mr. Duffy stated he will be available to attend Board meetings on an “as needed” basis.
Mr. Duffy will make sure the City is aware that appointments need to be made to the Board of Trustees.

Building Committee Report
The building committee will meet with the Mayor and City Council on Thursday, April 4 at 10 p.m. Architect John Pederesen will be present to explain the needed repairs of the library building.

Political Contribution Disclosure Form
The Political Contribution Disclosure Form is now available online. The document is editable and may be completed on-line, but must be printed to file with the State. A copy must be filed at the City Clerk’s Office.

OLD BUSINESS
There was no old business.

PUBLIC COMMENT
No members of the public were present.

EXECUTIVE SESSION
There was not a call to go into Executive Session.

ADJOUNMENT
On a motion made by Dr. Schneider, seconded by Ms. Irby, Trustees agreed to adjourn the meeting at 5:55 p.m.
