BOARD OF TRUSTEES – MINUTES
April 23, 2015
A meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Vineland Public
Library was held on Thursday, April 23, 2015, in the Community Event
Room of the library, 1058 E. Landis Avenue, Vineland, NJ.
Board of Trustees President, Christine Schneider, called
the meeting to order at 5:29 pm. Notice of this meeting had been sent
to the Office of the City Clerk, The Daily Journal, The Press, Channel
9, and was posted in the library in accordance with The Sunshine Law.
Trustees present were Victor Druziako, Catherine Franzoi, Greg Gallo,
Sally Goode, Whelma Irby, Josephine Orlando-Spinelli, and Christine
Schneider. Also present were Library Director, Brandi Grosso; Administrative
Clerk, Mary Ann Rada; and Head of Adult Services, Holly Rogerson.
MINUTES of March 26, 2015
Ms. Irby, seconded by Mrs. Spinelli, moved that the minutes of the
March 26, 2015 Board of Trustees meeting be accepted. All who attended
the meeting passed the motion unanimously.
TREASURER’S REPORT for March, 2015
On a motion made by Ms. Irby, seconded by Mr. Druziako, Trustees approved
the Treasurer’s Report for March, 2015. The Administrative Clerk
called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Mrs. Franzoi, Mr. Gallo, Mrs.
Goode, Ms. Irby, Mrs. Spinelli, and Mrs. Schneider
AMENDED TREASURER’S REPORT for December,
On a motion made by Ms. Irby, seconded by Mrs. Spinelli, Trustees
approved the amended Treasurer’s Report for December, 2014.
The Administrative Clerk called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Mrs.
Franzoi, Mr. Gallo, Mrs. Goode, Ms. Irby, Mrs. Spinelli, and Mrs.
SCHEDULE OF ACCOUNTS for April, 2015
The Schedule of Accounts of payments for April, 2015, in the amount
of $16,879.45 ($9,884.51 – other expenses and $6,994.94–
library materials), was authorized for payment by all present on a
motion made by Ms. Irby, seconded by Mrs. Spinelli. The Administrative
Clerk called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Mrs. Franzoi, Mr. Gallo,
Mrs. Goode, Ms. Irby, Mrs. Spinelli, and Mrs. Schneider
APPROVAL OF PAYMENT OF SALARIES AND BENEFITS
for month of May, 2015
On a motion made by Ms. Irby, seconded by Ms. Goode, Trustees approved
the payment of salaries and benefits for the month of May, 2015. The
Administrative Clerk called the roll: YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Mrs. Franzoi,
Mr. Gallo, Mrs. Goode, Ms. Irby, Mrs. Spinelli, and Mrs. Schneider
• An email was received by Architect John Pedersen with suggestions
concerning several trees on the library grounds that should be removed.
The email is attached to the Director’s report.
• A letter from Mayor Bermudez was received regarding the re-appointment
of Library Trustees whose terms have expired.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR’S REPORT
A copy of the Library Director’s Report is attached to the original
minutes. The following was added:
• Mayor Bermudez and Greg Gallo visited the Library on April
• The City’s Public Works Department began removal of
the two large, rotting trees at the back entrance of the Library.
They will remove the stumps if the library rents a stump remover.
• The Road Department has been out to repair the sink hole.
• Trustees questioned why the City does not take care of the
library’s lawn care. Mr. Gallo will look into this.
• Ms. Grosso attended a Rotary luncheon.
• Ms. Grosso will be meeting with Superintendent of Vineland
Schools, Dr. Mary Gruccio on April 24.
Community Relations Report
Trustees received a Community Relations Report for March that was
prepared by Library Associate, Caroline Fricke.
Roof – Building Committee Report
Mr. Druziako reported the following:
• On April 6, Mr. Druziako met with Architect John Pedersen
and representatives from Fabbri Builders to perform the punch list
for the roof.
• Mr. Pedersen will be preparing a list of repairs and renovation
still needed to be done to the library, listing the most important
• Work and clean up that still needs to be completed by Fabbri
o Plaster that was spilled on the walls
o Ruts in the lawn from trucks and equipment
o Re-seeding of lawn areas damaged by trucks and equipment
o Oil that leaked from equipment needs to be removed and cleaned up
• This work should be completed by the end of April.
Re-appointment of Trustees
Mayor Bermudez has re-appointed the following Trustees:
• Christine Schneider – Term expiring on December 31,
• Victor Druziako – Term expiring on December 31, 2018
• Whelma B. Irby – Term expiring on December 31, 2016
The Mayor has appointed Elizabeth Bermudez to the Vineland
Library Board of Trustees with a term commencing on February 26, 2015
and expiring on December 31, 2019.
Sun National Bank, Certificate of Deposit due May 16, 2015
Trustees received a handout, prepared by Melissa Vanes, Assistant
Supervisor of Accounts, with a list of banks and their current interest
On a motion made by Ms. Irby, seconded by Mr. Druziako,
Trustees approved allowing the certificate of deposit at Sun National
Bank to automatically renew. The Administrative Clerk called the roll:
YEAS: Mr. Druziako, Mrs. Franzoi, Mr. Gallo, Mrs. Goode, Ms. Irby,
Mrs. Spinelli, and Mrs. Schneider
Board’s approval to discuss a reuniting of the Cumberland
Ms. Grosso met with Directors from Millville and Bridgeton Libraries.
They felt the public was better served when all county libraries were
united and would like to explore the possibility of reuniting the
Mrs. Rogerson commented on some of the advantages that
were available when all libraries worked as one consortium.
Trustees would like Ms. Grosso to find out what the
library’s responsibilities and costs would be.
On a motion made Mr. Druziako, seconded by Mrs. Goode,
Trustees approved Ms. Grosso to discuss, among the libraries, what
would be involved in reuniting the Cumberland County Libraries.
Approval to change the May Board of Trustees meeting
from May 21 to May 28
On a motion made by Mrs. Goode, seconded by Mr. Druziako, Trustees
approved to move the May 21, 2015 Board of Trustees meeting to May
On motion made by Mrs. Spinelli and seconded by Ms. Irby, Trustees
moved to open the meeting to the public. The motion was passed by
No members of the public were present.
On motion made by Ms. Irby, and seconded by Mrs. Spinelli,
Trustees moved to close the public comment session of the meeting.
The motion was passed by unanimous consent.
Ms. Grosso reported that, on May 14, the library will be opening an
hour late at 10:00 a.m. for staff fire evacuation training.
There was not a call to go into executive session.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
