September/October 2009 Vampire Jade: The
Hospital It’s my 6th month working at cross hospital as a secretary for the blood donor section of the hospital. I’m a pure blood vampire. I don’t know why, but I thought this job would be cool...not really. Most of the staff is stuck up and I’m stuck sitting at a desk for hours at a time typing up donor cards. It’s signing out time for me so, I log off the computer and start walking to the main office with the keys to my SUV. “Hey Jade,” I hear from a distance. I look back and see my handsome coworker, Leon. He’s different than my other coworkers. He’s actually nice. “Hey Leon,” I respond with a smile. As I continued walking, I heard something small and plastic hit the ground. I looked back again and see a card on the ground next to an automated door. I picked up the card and walked to the other side of the door before it closed. When I walked in, there was an elevator. I looked at the card and noticed it was a key card to the room I just walked in. I ignored the fact that it said restricted area and continued on. When I got out of the elevator, I walked into a cross section of the hallway, and heard someone walking my way, so I hid next to a large box. A security guard walked to the center of the room and stood there. He was different from all the other hospital guards I’ve seen. This guard was sporting a gun. The guard stood there until a familiar man walked to him. Andrew Den, the owner of the hospital, AKA “king of all who are stuck up and greedy.” “Yes sir!” the guard said in a military fashion. “I need you to stay in this area. There’s an intruder, and I can’t risk an information leak,” Andrew said before turning around. He began walking my way, so I quickly made my way into a room next to me. I looked around the luxurious office space and walked to the desk. The hospital layout was on it. I was startled to see that there was almost an entire building built underneath the hospital. It was connected to the elevator I used. “Why so secret?” I ask myself. I could feel trouble coming my way so I ran for the door. Right before I opened it the door opened, and there was Andrew looking at me in surprise. “SECURITY! GET HER! KILL HER!” Andrew screamed. In pure confusion, I slapped him in the face and ran off. I ran down the end of the hallway, and opened the door. I must have hit him hard because there was blood on my hand. The blood made my fangs extend. I attempted to calm down, but then gasped to see a room full of dead people on tables. I could see Leon tied up next to a table with a dead man on it. “Jade!” Leon screamed. I ran over and cut the plastic restraints with my claws. “Are you ok?” I asked. I could feel my fangs retract, so I closed my mouth. “Yeah,” Leon replied in a low tone. “You work here, what’s going on?” I asked in a worried tone, completely forgetting about my fangs. “Ok, well to make a long story short, Andrew’s people are grabbling helpless people off the streets, and killing them to sell their organs,” Leon said. Before I could make a comment, smoke started filling the room. Leon started looking dazed. Poison is all I could think. I grabbed Leon and we ran out of the room. Leon stumbled down to his knees. “I’m dying,” he said as I cut my thumb with my fang, and spread the blood on my lips. I grabbed him, and kissed him. My blood should give him a boost, and keep him alive. “Wow!” Leon said. I instantly felt a sharp pain on the back of my neck. I turned around to see Andrew with a needle in his hand. Leon lunged forward, and punched Andrew in the face. Andrew stumbled back and hissed, revealing fangs. Leon tugged my shirt, and we ran off. I led the way back to the office, and ran to the computer. I sent all the secret files to the FBI. Then Leon and I ran to the elevator. When the elevator got to the top, Leon and I ran to the parking lot. I started to feel the effect of the poison, and the hunger for blood filled my mind. Leon read my face like a book, and put his wrist up to my mouth. I instantly bit down, and started to drink his blood. “Thanks,” I said pulling my fangs out of his wrist. Then I cleaned the blood off my mouth with the back of my hand. Leon’s blood illuminated off my brown skin like shimmer. “If you don’t mind me asking, how did you know about Andrew’s plan?” I asked. “Well… I ...I have a secret to tell you...I’m not a doctor…..I’m a vampire hunter,” Leon said in a nervous voice. “So, you’re going to hunt me?” I asked, trying not to sound nervous. “No,” Leon said softly, while placing his hand on the side of my face, and kissing me. “Wait,” Leon said as he reached under a nearby car, and pulled out a black leather bag. “Wow,” I said as I looked into a bag full of 100 dollar bills. I looked at him and smiled. “Need a ride?” I asked holding up my keys. Leon and I knew the police would be there soon, so we hopped into the Hummer and drove off. Right when we left hospital grounds, the FBI raided the place. I looked into Leon’s warm, blue eyes, and smiled. “So tell me more about yourself, I would love to know,” I said. Leon chuckled, “How about I tell you over dinner?” “You got a date,” I said in a happy tone.
