Stick Fight by Josh Velez

In My Dreams
by Liz Funk

In my dreams I am transported
to another realm, where destiny is at my fingertips.
I ride bareback upon a white stallion
in my personal Utopia, where crystals
cascade down the sides of tropical waterfalls,
and the scent of fresh mango dances in the air.

In my dreams I am applauded
upon a stage, surrounded by my adoring fans.
I have just bared my soul in the form of musical verse,
and I am receiving my heart back, multiplied a thousand times
in size by the adulation of my admirers.

In my dream I belong in a community
of amateur intellectuals and philosophers galore, voluntarily
passing Saturday nights pouring over Plato and pizza.
I am commended for my novel views,
and revered as a free-thinker.

In my dreams I am venerated,
robed in a sheath of satin and lace.
A little gold statue clutched gracefully in my refined hand,
"unprocurable"
dreams in a solid reality.

During my dreams I am sleeping;
in a bed, solitary and alone.
As Mercutio once screamed,
"Dreamers often lie!"

When snatched from my dreams, I know the truth.

About Him

by Sara Iwantschenko

His brown eyes
have me hypnotized.
The way he smiles,
the way he talks,
the way he flirts,
the way he walks,
I love him more
each and every day.
He takes my breath away.
What else can I say?
We kiss,
we talk,
we hold hands,
and walk.
We go out to the movies,
and go on some dates.
It was probably fate.
Maybe destiny,
maybe love,
maybe a crush.
Whatever it is
I like it a lot.
I hope it will stay
and never go away.

Believe in You
by Brazil Smith

Follow me young girl, I'll show you the way.
Never follow petty people, they'll only lead you astray.
Trust me young girl, I'll tell you what to do.
I only want the best, I'll tell you nothing but the truth.
Listen to me young girl, I'm speaking out loud.
Do your best at all you do, you'll make a lot of people proud.
Never let foolish people influence you,
if you make that mistake, you'll be foolish too.
You shouldn't block caring people out so much.
I know it's hard to twist the knob, but your door can't stay shut.
Think more about your actions, you can't always do what you want.
But don't be too cautious; just follow that feeling in your gut.
Don't only think with your mind, think with your heart, too.
Believe in me young girl…
Or should I say believe in you.
