Looking Up
by Veronica Cardona
When you look
up
You will see something
That something is
Light
Looking up is something
Great to do
When you look up you will
See birds
Looking up is a perfect
Way to explore
This beautiful world
Looking up at the world is
Good
Cause you’re looking at
Nature
And peace at
Times but looking
Up to this world is like
Looking at the pretty sky
And water
I am always looking
Looking up.

Alone
by Danny Falasca
I lay awake at nights,
wishing for the warmth of a father or mother.
I go to bed without a nighttime story or a kiss on the cheek.
I am trapped in a cold, dark world with no guidance or strength to battle
the terrifying
shadows of the night.
They creep up behind my silent, pale body as the tears roll down my face.
I am alone.
I wake up to the same
frightening world, alone.
No place to go or no one to love,
just work to be done.
I get on my sore knees and search the ground for breakfast,
usually of crumbs.
My tattered clothes do not protect me from the harsh winters or scorching
summer days.
My body aches, my fingers shake, and my throat is dry.
I am alone.
I have no name,
but I do not deserve one.
I cannot dream because I have no hope for my own future.
My life is constant struggle,
a never-ending war that I am bound to lose.
I am not smart or handsome.
I am useless to the world and my life is useless to me.
I am alone.
I live in a cruel and
pitiless world,
where I am considered as nothing.
Life has no meaning or value,
but the sinister gloom of death seems to be my only escape from this place
that I hate so much.
I am alone.
If there are others
like me in this world that I am sickened by,
I wish them one thing,
and one thing only.
I wish you could escape the hellish, draining, and foul
world of confusion and darkness that I have endured.
I wish that you live and thrive in a wonderful life
where you are not alone.
