Your Welcome Mat
by Liza Monroy

Oranges on the floor
cover your eyes I said
as the pain developed at
the edge of my tongue
I told you not to look at it
you never listen
so I spilled them
and the dream starts out
and I covered his eyes
I lost so many thoughts
or really having any
damned interest in them at all
every thing just went
wrong today
I mean mom and dads and cousins
Go ahead and step on the oranges
hold on I think I still have more
fruit in here how about the grapes
and wine oh the broken glass makes
such pretty pictures on the floor
here comes the cilantro and pork and
beans don't forget the vitamins
I think you'd like to step on
all of these and while you're
there just step on me so you don't
track dirt in the house

The Ruddy Dab
by Liza Monroy

she kisses the inside of
my hand
the middle of my palm
her nose frosty as an
amusement park on
a flannel autumn
afternoon
(what a detestable season! a blackguard
grey...add a few black specks and it’d be the
floor of a doctor’s office)
her lips though are tepid
and dappled with the
coffee that
has made her warm as plaidly
as an Hispanic plant
jammed, crammed and
potent to the
peak with
spurting care
a clog jug with
pores and craters
filled by this liquid
touched by
sticky
molecules
like a car
pulling into
a driveway
which bubbles
and springs
as it’s
rocked
when it’s
moved
if not it’s
cold and
stagnant
but can’t
fluid shiver?
can’t the
non-physical
be wrapped
in a cloak
to keep it
warmer?

Avalonistic Pleasures
by Raquel Gonzalez

Tear me from your arms
because I don't want you to leave
Salty mist caressing my back
I am fighting the urge to kiss you
You're uncovering my sensitive side
One worded games revealing inner thoughts
Common interests mounting each day
keep talking so I can listen to your
soothing voice a little longer
I am studying your face so I can
picture it when you're gone
Focus on the way your hands feel on my skin
Your heartbeat inches from my ear
keeps me grateful for this moment
If you really could hear my thoughts
You'd know
the possibilites that exist in my mind
the hopes that I can harbor in my heart
the reality that is the Avalon experience
