Champion’s Quest
by Sergio Nevarro

Failure,
If not death is a test
failure is something known only to the best
One must crawl before they can walk
One does babble before talk -
For they are born with Nike shoes,
Their real loss is not to know to lose

Night Rider
by Danny Falasca

The battered beast lay still,
until his master summons him.
He fires up his metallic heart,
with a roar and sputter
not knowing if he will be able to continue on.

His sleek skin glistens in the sunlight,
and his bright eyes light up the sky.
He moves on skates, guided by humans.
No control of his fate.

He purrs as he glides and sways down the runway.
Beeping, turning, and spinning
as he charges on,
eating his way forward into the night.

The beast passes the world by,
only stopping when told.
When the night slowly creeps up behind him and swallows him whole,
he isn’t afraid to light up the beaten path ahead,
and continue on.

When it’s time and the day’s ended,
no fight is issued when rest is rewarded.
He lays down his head
his roar dies off,
and his cold metal heart stops.
But even though he lies motionless,
he cannot wait for the next time to ride.
