Come see the Nutcracker Prince Puppet Show.

Please Note: Due to puppet show scheduling for the local schools, there will be no separate Baby Time, Toddler Time, Preschool Story Time, or Book Discussions for ages 6 to 8 and ages 9 & up in December. These programs will resume in January. There will be two story time programs for ages 5 & younger.

The Children's Department schedules many programs for children during the year. Click on the above links or scroll down to see what the Children's Department has planned for this month. All events are free. Registration is required where noted.

General Information

The Children's Department at the Vineland Public Library keeps busy all year long. During the school year, we assist children and young adults, parents and teachers with their research and computer questions. In the summer, we provide programs to encourage learning when school is not in session. Throughout the year, the Children's Department provides programs that encourage Family Literacy and a love of the library.

Class/Group Visits

Various teachers from Vineland schools (public, private and homeschoolers) schedule class visits to our library. We can take no more than 30 students at a time. Call early! We get booked quickly at the beginning of the school year. There may be as much as a two month waiting period. Teachers may ask us to cover specific topics, but here is a general listing of the programs we offer:

Preschool/Day Care Centers Stories, how to get a library card, how to find books in our Easy Reader section--45 minutes.
Kindergarten Tour of the library, stories, how to get a library card, library rules, how to find books in our Easy Reader section--45 minutes to an hour.
1st & 2nd grade Tour of the library, stories, how to get a library card, library rules, how to find story books--1 hour.
3rd - 6th grade Stories, book talk, how to find books in the library (an introduction to the Dewey Decimal System & our online catalog), how to choose a book for a report.  How to use the library for research. All programs are 1 hour.
Homeschoolers We can modify any of the above programs for your group.

‘Nutcracker Prince’ Puppet Show performed at Vineland Public Library

The Vineland Public Library will continue a December tradition with a performance of “The Nutcracker Prince” puppet show on Saturday, December 9 from 11 to 11:45 a.m. upstairs in the Children’s Department.

Join Clara on her adventure to Sugar Plum Land, where she helps the Nutcracker Prince save the Sugar Plum Fairy Princess from the evil Mouse King, in this puppet version of Tchaikovsky's beloved ballet.

The puppet show is free. Seating will be done on a first come, first served basis.

Children younger than age 9 must be accompanied by an adult at all times in the library.

Ages 12 & younger

 

Families can a make a “gingerbread” candy house at the Vineland Library

The Children’s Department at the Vineland Public Library invites families with children ages 12 and younger to enjoy stories and to decorate a gingerbread house at a fun-filled craft program.

Join us for our annual Gingerbread House Story Craft Thursday, December 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Community Event Room on the first floor of the library.

Families are asked to bring an empty, clean, dry pint or half-pint milk or juice carton for each person attending.

The library will have decorations on hand for the houses. Funding for this program is provided by The Friends of the Vineland Public Library. Members of the Vineland Public Library’s Teen Club will be assisting with the program.

Families invited to Vineland Library for interactive movie and craft

The Vineland Public Library is hosting an Interactive Family Movie Program on Tuesday, December 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Community Event Room on the first floor of the Vineland Public Library. Families will watch a movie and interact with the characters using props provided by the library.

Buddy, a human baby, stows away in Santa's toy bag and ends up at the North Pole. The elves raise him as one of their own, but when he begins to notice how different he is from the other elves, he goes to New York City to find his birth father in this sweet holiday comedy. This 2003 movie is rated PG. Closed captioning is available upon request.

Families are invited to bring their own refreshments. Children will make a simple craft following the movie.

Ages 5 & younger

December Story Times for ages 0-5 at the Vineland Public Library

Children ages 5 and younger are invited to come to two special story times at the library in December.

Join us for Story Time, Wednesdays, December 6 and 13 from 10 to 10:30 a.m. in the Children’s Department. Children will listen to stories, sing songs and participate in movement activities for preschoolers, toddlers and babies. Children will be given an optional take-home craft.
