Vineland Public Library Employee Wins Scholarship

The Vineland Public Library is pleased to announce that library employee Nichole Dwight has been selected as a Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program Masters of Library Science Degree scholarship winner. This $1 million grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) was given to the New Jersey State Library and its partners, Rutgers University School of Communication, Information and Library Studies, Thomas Edison State College, Central Jersey Regional Library Cooperative and New Jersey Library Association, to recruit urban librarians.

Ms. Dwight is currently a Senior Library Assistant in the Children’s Department and has been a library employee since 1998. She recently received her B.A. from Thomas Edison State College. She will begin studying for her Master’s Degree at Rutgers in September.

Building on a current IMLS grant, the project's main goal is to increase minority and bilingual staff in New Jersey’s urban public libraries. The project provides assistance in the form of scholarships for 25 diverse New Jersey urban library employees to achieve their next level of library education. Five urban public library staff members will earn an A.A. degree; eight will earn a B.A. degree; ten B.A. graduates will earn a Master's degree in library science; one current Ph.D. student will finish the program; and one new Ph.D. student will receive a scholarship.
